This wine poured a dark blood to brick red. It had flavors of cedar, dried fruit, earth, and may be a little bit of graphite. It was very smooth and balanced. It had quite light tannins but some nice acidity. I do not have a lot of experience with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but this was a very good example. It was nice to try an old world GSM blend, and compare it to American versions. It was certainly less fruity and more earthy. It went perfectly with the prime rib we cooked for Christmas Eve dinner. Dark ruby in color with reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black cherries, plums, currants, cedar, earth, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, chocolates, coffee, herbs and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Very dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cherries, peppercorn, earth, pencil lead, dark chocolates, herbs and light vegetables.

Tangy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 10 year old Merlot from Napa Valley is delicious. Nicely balanced, fruit forward and rich.

Peaking now and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

I had this vintage before, and this time I gave it a long decant (4 hours) to bring the tannins out. What a difference. Really enjoyed it.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with Prime Rib, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables.

With some decent chill, very nice. Perfect NYE pairing with prime rib (as you can see in the background). For a riper and less “traditional” year, this is quite nice. Only 13% abv which is appreciated. Very typical dark fruit, earth, leather, don’t get much of the graphite. Very nice seamlessness and acid on the finish. — 5 years ago

Whatever words I would use to describe how amazing the 96 was with our Prime Rib Roast last night would simply fall short & never do it justice.

The evolution that took place in this bottle after 21 years was never conceived by anyone tasting it upon release or young. It has made a epic leap and simply heaven on the palate.

Oh...as a friend of mine was always fond of saying...”The Prime Rib Roast didn’t suck either!”

I wanna do this again real soon. OMG!!!
