Felseneck GG Riesling 2023

85$/12.5%. Sadly 85$. I met Tim Fröhlich (aka Tim ‘Cheerful’) ca. 15 years??? ago at ‘La République’ in LA - now a restaurant - in what used to be the house of Charlie Chaplin. It was a major Riesling tasting with the late Rudi Wiest. Anyways ever since I have been a mega fan. White peach, white flowers on the nose. Smokey and wild in the glass. Yeasty. Hint sweetness nicely balanced with acidity. Stonefruit, white peach, yellow peach, hint sour mandarine, elderberry. Incredible minerality - bursting with freshness and vitality and Fröhlichness - its good to be alive! — 5 months ago

'S' Trocken Weißer Burgunder 2022

A bit closed & ‘soapy’ on opening, after 1h opens up showing juicy pear, yellow apple and some peach. Some rye toast, a bit is stony minerality. Fresh & nice.
On the palate this has nice depth, impeccable balance, purity of fruit and a salty, spicy, mineral finish of remarkable length.
Perfect as an aperitif but would hold its weight with food. a nice one.

after a first reductive whiff there is pure and pristine lemon-like citrus with some green melon. The palate is where it’s at with smoky minerality and electric acidity — 5 years ago

Dynamite stuff. 2006 is very good in the Nahe. Herbal nose, white cherries, apricots, super mineral, very clean. Palate is rich but super precise with lovely tangy apricot, grapefruit and Rainer cherry. Fresh and energetic with an icing like texture. Long, clean and super pure. Wonderful depth. — 7 years ago

Felsenberg Großes Gewächs Riesling 2017

The nose alone is a 10. Like being locked in a flower shop and all of the flowers fell on your face and when you stood up James Cagney smashed a grapefruit in your face. So much going on in the mouth , citrus, spice and stone fruits. The acid provides you with a very long and rounded finish.. — 3 months ago

Stromberg Großes Gewächs Riesling 2018

Merry Christmas to all on Delectable! The best drop during our wine squad’s pre-Christmas gathering has to be this masterpiece from Tim Frohlich. Such insane concentration, yet so filigreed and focused. The trademark reduction and vintage's ripeness gave it such an intense jackfruit character. Notes of herbs, spices, and ripe oranges too, as well as hints of mint and white florals. The palate was dense, silky, and straight up powerful, but never heavy - it remained juicy, bright, and saline throughout. And the finish here was just something else. It went on and on, filled with zingy citrus and a smoky, stony minerality. Really impressive stuff here and definitely a worthy contender (vs. Felseneck) for the title of Schafer-Frohlich’s top wine. — 2 years ago

Escherndorfer Lump Silvaner 2016

9.2

If you’re not yet acquainted with fine Franconian Silvaner, you owe yourself the pleasure. Franken is a dry wine oriented region and the wines are as unique and characterful as their traditional flagon shaped bottles. Michael Fröhlich in Escherndorf is a top VDP grower in the top rated Lump. Fresh, clean, ripe, balanced “modern” style wines that clearly express their terroir, but almost any Franconian VDP grower will not disappoint. — 6 years ago

Felseneck Großes Gewächs Trocken Riesling 2010

Nose: intense white and yellow flowers. Expansive. Hints of grapefruit peel. Complex. An element of aged profundity.

Palate: the wall of flavor. Mineral. Citrus. Dense. Elegant. Grippy. A minor hint of slutty sexiness. Grapefruit.

Long.

Dorsheimer Pittermannchen Kabinett Riesling 2019

🏅 Rating 89/100 (3,9⭐)

Off-dry Kabinett. Very floral, delicate. White flowers, honey. Stone fruit. On the palate has some citrus with light bitter finish. Petrol notes are very gentle and almost not traceable, just a hint. Gastronomic wine with only 8.0% Alc. and pleasant fruity sweetness, good for an easy apero or as an accompaniment for pan-asian / oriental food. Residual sugar is nicely balanced with signature Riesling acidity.

PITTERMÄNNCHEN is VDP.GROSSE LAGE classified South facing vineyard in Dorsheim, Nahe with clay slate soils. Spontaneous fermentation and maturation in big 1,200l barrels.
