Felseneck GG Riesling 2023

85$/12.5%. Sadly 85$. I met Tim Fröhlich (aka Tim ‘Cheerful’) ca. 15 years??? ago at ‘La République’ in LA - now a restaurant - in what used to be the house of Charlie Chaplin. It was a major Riesling tasting with the late Rudi Wiest. Anyways ever since I have been a mega fan. White peach, white flowers on the nose. Smokey and wild in the glass. Yeasty. Hint sweetness nicely balanced with acidity. Stonefruit, white peach, yellow peach, hint sour mandarine, elderberry. Incredible minerality - bursting with freshness and vitality and Fröhlichness - its good to be alive! — 17 days ago

Stromberg Großes Gewächs Riesling 2018

Merry Christmas to all on Delectable! The best drop during our wine squad’s pre-Christmas gathering has to be this masterpiece from Tim Frohlich. Such insane concentration, yet so filigreed and focused. The trademark reduction and vintage's ripeness gave it such an intense jackfruit character. Notes of herbs, spices, and ripe oranges too, as well as hints of mint and white florals. The palate was dense, silky, and straight up powerful, but never heavy - it remained juicy, bright, and saline throughout. And the finish here was just something else. It went on and on, filled with zingy citrus and a smoky, stony minerality. Really impressive stuff here and definitely a worthy contender (vs. Felseneck) for the title of Schafer-Frohlich’s top wine. — 2 years ago

APnr 21-08; Felseneck goldcap spatlese.
Youthful, fresh, generous. Beautiful fruit, citrus and peach, lovely acidity and salinity. Over 18 years old, this wine possesses an impressive clarity, lightness, and a long gentle finish.

'S' Trocken Weißer Burgunder 2022

A bit closed & ‘soapy’ on opening, after 1h opens up showing juicy pear, yellow apple and some peach. Some rye toast, a bit is stony minerality. Fresh & nice.
On the palate this has nice depth, impeccable balance, purity of fruit and a salty, spicy, mineral finish of remarkable length.
Perfect as an aperitif but would hold its weight with food. a nice one.

Felseneck Spätlese Riesling 2013

Shay A
9.2

I’ve enjoyed this producer for a few years (specifically the Felseneck GG) but this is my first experience with their Spatlese Riesling from 2013. Followed over two days.

Next to a ‘22 Clemens Busch Auslese and a ‘22 Kloster Eberbach Baiken Erste Lage Trocken, the richness here was Goldilocks…right down the middle. Not a dynamite vintage, yet I’ve found I traditionally enjoy the Spatlese-level and above sweet wines from cooler vintages as the acid and sweetness play nicely together. Exhibit A. Ripe nectarine and white peach aromatically but also plenty of citrus notes. Lemon-lime and limestone grit dance on the mid-palate before a mineral + honeyed profile bring about an elegantly rich profile complemented by both the classical mineral and sweet Spatlese notes. Crushable at 7.5 ABV!

Enjoyable now and I’m not sure it gets better from here, just different. Consistent over both nights.
