Polish Hill Clare Valley Riesling 2017

Often the Grosset Polish Hill doesn’t live up to its billing as perhaps Australia’s finest dry Riesling but with this 2017 it probably exceeds expectations. It is simply fabulous. Some ripe lusciousness to the mid palate amid lime and lemon notes, but finishes bone dry. My first of 4 bottles so I will enjoy the journey over the next 5+ years if I can keep my hands off it. HH said it is shaping up as one of the greatest Polish Hill Rieslings. — 5 months ago

At Coci Northpark San Diego. The wine. Food excellent. Very very difficult to evaluate. I think they used too much oak on this. Ridiculous big and tannic even after 12 years. And after 90 minutes. I tough it is corked at first and even at 60min. Tobacco, cigar box. Touch cherry hint of prune plum. And better with a t-bone than with the light Italian food.I think they really overdid it to please - May be Robert Parker - at the time? Give it at least 2 hours to breathe before serving!!!! — a year ago

Argetsinger Vineyard Dry Riesling 2017

From my brother’s stash, such a beautiful Finger Lakes Riesling. More German GG than Alsace GC. Nose has bright apple fruit, with a fleeting note of almost ripe peach, green herbs, clover, and a minerality that reminds me a bit of Chablis because of a little brothy note. Perfect balance in the mouth: fruit, acids, minerality, alcohol. Lip-smacking long finish, and bone dry throughout. — 4 years ago

I felt this wine was confused and confusing. As a result, I left it until day 3 hoping for better things. It did improve presenting salinity, Meyer lemons and low acidity. Medium weight on the mid-palate, finishing bone dry. In this case, my criticism is a compliment. Lay this down for a while. — 5 years ago

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Color a is murky red brown. Nose—a sweet red cherry plum and forest floor barn yard funk with green veggie. A slight menthol lingering. Taste— Sweet strawberry tea flavors hit the pallet. A slight smoky and tobacco medium finish with touches of currant, tea and spices hanging around making the wine soft and pleasant and wanting more. Tannins have sweeten but definitely still there! — 6 years ago

Trailside Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1993

A Conn Creek neighbor for this particular vineyard.

Nose has cherry/plum liquor, dried citrus rind, charred oak, rain-soaked soil, spring green herbs, mocha-coffee and toasted graham cracker.

Palate has cedar-infused black currant, plum skin, earthy and dirty wet leather and mild tannins.

Paired with a wonderfully grilled t-bone tonight.

This bottle easily has several years to go, enjoyed in it's youth tonight for sure. Future bottles can be 2020-2023 without concern.

For me, this wine is reminiscent of many 90's vintages of Sterling (SVR) wines that we have enjoyed over the years, minty cigar box, just wonderful.

The epitome of smooth and majestic.
Not easy to find on the secondary market, but worth securing a bottle at the right price. Notes of mocha and espresso on the nose and mid-palate segue to polished tannins and moderate acidity. The capstone is a nice balanced weight and mouthfeel. Never disappointed with this botting.

Color is a dark blue-purple. Dark fruit, baked blackberries and cassis are the primary aromas followed by black tea and spice with a lingering touch of eucalyptus. Still tastes a little young with some heat but mouth coating and filling the palate with blackberries, cocoa, leather, and espresso beans. A medium plus jammy finish. Will go well with our New York bone in steaks. — 2 years ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

$45 Big nose. Notes of blackberry, black cherry, rose petals and spice on the nose. Light in color. Full bodied. Bone dry. High acid. Medium-plus alcohol. High tannins with a strong chewy aftertaste. Notes of black cherry, cranberry, wet leaves, mushrooms, smoke, sweet tobacco and cola on the palate. This is a bone dry, DELICIOUS barabaresco. It verges on savory with its notes of wet forest floor while maintaining some beautiful fruit forward tones. I was told that this is a great example of a classic barbaresco nebbiolo, and if this is the case I am excited to drink more of this complex grape. — 4 years ago

Pale green-tinged lemon with crisp, mineral-laced nose with loads of lemon curd and pastry on the palate. It's showing its coming maturity with a hint of almond extract on the finish and a bit of hazelnut, the quality of well-aged chardonnay.
