The nose shows candied orange peel, lemon peel, apricot, honey. The palate is showing a great acid drive, superb matter on the side, even a tiny thickness on the sides, some orange and orange peel notes, a big bright apricot note, some honey and then tannins in the rear that leave a gentle drying layer over a long orange peel, apricot, honeyed finish that goes on for ever. There is a tiny bitter note that blossoms in the very end. Complexity, texture, fruit, matter. This packs it all. The initial barnyardy notes blew off after a short while. This wine has a pale yellow color. The most noticeable thing about it is the incredibly fragrant nose, full of apricots, peaches and pears. The palate offers those sweet fruits as well, with the addition of a bit of earthiness wrapped around them. The acidity is brisk and the finish is sweet. Pair it with cheese, or just sip it, because it is a very nice sip. — 5 months ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course two hours. The 2023 Morgon (S) pours a brilliant ruby/purple color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red fruits: strawberry, raspberry, cherry, a touch of bubblegum, red flowers, licorice, black pepper, a mix of cool spices and rocky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a more dense expression of Lapierre’s Morgon which isn’t a surprise considering the vintage. Quite lovely with chicken pâté. Drink now through 2037. — 2 months ago

Enjoyed alongside some other Napa legends from the 80’s and 90’s. The 1985 is lovely and came more than willing, with a mix of tart, ripe and desiccated red fruits, Montmorency cherries, red currants, graphite, toasted coconut, leather and nuts. There was a slightly sherried character early on the nose but the structure seemed to defy age. No need to cellar further as this is delicious now and well stored examples should continue to be through 2030+. — 6 months ago
