Meaty. It takes a minute for the fruit to rise out of the spice and earthy stuff. Very enjoyable.

Dynamite. Cork broke, but not to worry. The wine is so good. Deep, expressive fruit and bitter leaves. Earthy. Improving considerably as it breathes. And the bottle weighs 37 pounds.

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2015

First sentence is a tester. Now the full note. We don’t often have Grand Cru Burgundy but we had roast duck legs on Mother’s Day. An intensity to the nose - Sous Bois/Compost heap with savoury red fruits - smoky with a hint of pepper. Many of the experts are saying a high influence of stems in the ferment is apparent and I totally agree. Interestingly Richard Hemming MW gave the wine 19.5/20 and said “This is what all the Burgundy fuss is all about.” Continuing to evaluate - this wine has a beautiful nose (very Morey one taster said). In summary a magnificent wine with great persistence. One of the 1001 Wines. Clos des Lambrays can trace its history back to the 14th century. — 2 months ago

Grand Cru Brut Rosé Champagne

A small portion of Pinot Noir (which makes up approximately 80% of the blend) still wine is added for color; the balance is Chardonnay. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The Grand Rosé pours a pretty pink color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of raspberry, red apple, a mix of orchard citrus fruit, marzipan, a hint of brioche and lovely minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and round. Very easy to like. Drink now. Disgorged February of 2025. — 4 months ago

Strawberries, black cherries, dark chocolate and truffles. Very powerful. Apparently it is aged in 100% new oak, which is often not the best idea, but in this one it's perfectly integrated. Very long finish. — 3 months ago

Château Grand-Pontet

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Château Grand-Pontet Grand Cru Classé 2019, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France 🇫🇷

Overview
A structured Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 77.5% Merlot, 17.5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, showing a more classical Right Bank profile with emphasis on structure and finesse rather than overt plushness.

Aromas & Flavors
Black cherry, cassis, dark plum, graphite, cedar, and subtle baking spice. As the wine opens, layers of cocoa, tobacco leaf, and earthy minerality begin to emerge.

Mouthfeel
Medium-to-full bodied with refined structure and beautifully integrated tannins. After extended decanting, the tannins become silky and the palate reveals impressive balance with a superb, polished texture.

Food Pairings
Roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses.

Verdict
A refined and structured Saint-Émilion that showcases the elegance of the 2019 vintage. Balanced, layered, and already showing impressive harmony while still capable of further evolution.

Did You Know?
Unlike the fixed 1855 Bordeaux classification, the Saint-Émilion classification is periodically revised, meaning estates can move up or down depending on quality and vineyard performance.

🍷 Personal Pick
A beautifully composed Saint-Émilion with remarkable texture and finesse. After proper decanting (+2hrs), it shows silky tannins and impressive balance, already entering a very enjoyable drinking now window.
