Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2006

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2006 pours a deep straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of slightly bruised apple, white flowers, lemon curd, brioche, slivered almond and a mix of chalk and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and creamy. I wish I could drink this all night long. Alas, only a single 750mL and not a Methuselah. Drinking well now and will only be taking on more secondary and tertiary character. But if that’s your thing (and I can get down), this will deliver well past 2036. — 16 days ago

Yvon Métras

Beaujolais Gamay 2019

The nose was very unsettled at first and showcased intense barnyard and rotten egg notes. It went away after one hour and half to show a big bright cherry, cherry liquor note along with hay and rose petals touches. This is great. The palate is next level though. There is an intense cherry note that shines through and through, along with a massive acid backbone. There is good width and some nice matter on the side, a soft mouthfeel and even a creamy thing that adds a layer of texture and complexity on top. Some fine, sandy yet subtle tannins kick in in the rear to power up a very long fruity finish that carries that creamy touch till the end. This is a great wine! Now I understand the hype around it, but I will probably not buy again because at 29 EUR, and even if it's a great wine, there is very little value to it... — 3 years ago

Nose is ripe and a bit funky but will blow off. Stunning purity and freshness and so many seashells. Also a mineral liquid gum drop thing happening. Palate is ripe, treacly and racy with awesome purity and freshness. Silky and juicy. Very long. Terrific concentration, focus and energy. Very very pure. Silky and deep. Just a tremendous bottle. — 4 years ago

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

Hazy Little Thing IPA

Grapefruit juice coloration with egg white foam. Shamrock to bubble font and naive gryphon lacing. Nettle and lemon nose grows sweet grapefruit-tangerine, and Meyer-key lime. Bite-y saline-citrus of lemon proper, candied grapefruit, hibiscus, white pepper and lime zest.

Sine Qua Non

Turn the Whole Thing Upside Down Grenache 2009

#AgedWineTuesday

Deep purple in color with a short, cloudy purple rim.

Strong nose of black currants, black plums, stewed cherries, dried figs, raisins, ginger, oak, eucalyptus, spices, green beans and peppercorn.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, tobacco, licorice, peppercorn, chocolates, herbs, spices and coffee.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This 16 year old Grenache from California feels like it peaked a few years ago, but still drinking beautifully. Elegant and rich.

The Syrah notes are very dominant, especially right out of the bottle.

Complex and interesting, with a beautiful nose. Extracted and fruit forward.

Robert Parker 96 points.

Needed 2 hours to open up, and delicious by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of 84% Grenache, 11% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre.

15.6% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$330.

Château La Couspaude

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

This is right bank at its best ! Wet forest floor, mushrooms, oak, meat juice, earth, black currant, and almost a minty thing in the rear. Very complex. The palate is model of balance with good acid, a very soft, silky mouthfeel, some black currant and blackberry notes all along, some good width, some grippy tannins in the rear, that leave a tar-like impression over a long, fruity, meaty, umami finish that lasts for a very long while. This is great stuff. — 9 months ago
