God Only Knows Armada Vineyard Grenache 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner. The 2022 pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with fresh, pretty notes of red fruits: raspberries, Bing cherry, red flowers, white pepper, rocky earth and some gentle cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and juicy. Drink now through 2042. — 6 days ago

Washington Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Very bright, intense wine that despite the heavy oak notes was still in superb balance. Evolving layers of flavors on the finish and with time. All you want in a great wine. Don’t understand why there is always less wine in such bottles 🤓 — 4 months ago

Indian Wells Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

This is a polished, crowd-pleasing Cabernet that still shows real intent. Ripe black cherry and blackberry lead the charge, followed by notes of cocoa, vanilla, and a subtle cedar spice. The tannins are smooth and well-integrated, giving it an easy, confident structure without sacrificing depth. There’s just enough oak warmth to feel luxurious, but it never overwhelms the fruit.

I opened this during a family winter getaway in Atlantic City, one of those cold, quiet nights after the lights fade and the boardwalk winds down. It paired beautifully with a relaxed dinner and conversation, the kind of wine that elevates the moment without demanding attention. Approachable, reliable, and quietly refined. Indian Wells continues to earn its reputation as a go-to Cabernet with class.

Made some list for one of the best affordable wines out there. I get it… silky sweet flavor in waves. Some spice… some earth… some fruit. Soft tannins become crisp. Good juice. — 3 years ago

Quilceda Creek

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Initially a strange aspect to the nose which hopefully will blow off. An oxidised note which is not apparent on the palate. Last time I tasted this wine 5 years ago I raved and gave it a 98 point score. This time that slightly irritating note on the nose but that same gorgeous palate. 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot. I imported several vintages of Quilceda Creek from an outlet in San Francisco (Vinfolio) many years ago and this was my last bottle. Have never seen it offered in Australia but back in the day I was mightily impressed. 100 💯 points from Robert Parker. — 23 days ago

Columbia Valley Syrah 2013

Last bottle of the wine that, about 9 or 10 years ago, opened my eyes to the potential in the Columbia Valley and its various AVAs for Rhone varietals. I thought, if this entry-level Syrah was this good . . . . Just double-decanted it so it’s a little closed now on the nose, but the palate is soft and savory. Will update in a few hours and rate at that time.

UPDATE: it’s delicious and fully mature. Most of the fruit has been replaced by savory tertiary notes. Nose shows olive brine and delicate ash-y notes.

@Tom Casagrande, while I purchased an occasional Washington State Rhone varietal(s) wines over the years, and despite some prodding from friends to buy more, I never really did, though the ones I tried with said friends were undeniably very good to outstanding. What I’m saying is my cellar has always had a hole vis-a-vis these wines, less deliberate but nonetheless missing!!

@Doug Powers - If I’m not mistaken, you live a quick drive from the Sierra Foothills, another great area for Rhone varietals, and I’ve seen you post plenty of ‘em! So you just happen to be getting your fix from another source!

Cab Franc 49%, Merlot 48%, Cabernet 3%. Good blend. I have been consistently impressed by this producer and how the wines age. This is tasting at the right moment. Baked blackberry, black pepper, sour cherry. It’s good, but drink now. — 6 months ago

Quilceda Creek

Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, mint, vanilla, cedar, cola, licorice, eucalyptus and peppercorn.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, spices, graphite, peppercorn and black tea

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a gorgeous 12 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain in Washington State. Complex and fruit forward. Rich and elegant.

I had a more recent vintage not too long ago, and it’s definitely better with age.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely fantastic now. Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years.

Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and a gorgeous nose. Loved smelling on it. The high alcohol is well integrated by now.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired beautifully with the delicious Wagyu Steak.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French oak barrels for 20 months.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

I have written notes on 4 bottles of the 97 Jones Family Cabernet. This is the most perfect.

I have had all the Napa Cult Cabernets. None have ever rocked my palate/whole body the way this 97 Jones has done.

This is sadly my last bottle. I think it has finally hit its precipice. So, enjoy. If there are others that appear on the secondary markets, you’ll have to out dual/bid me.

I could write more notes but my previous ones will still apply plus. I am simply going to enjoy near perfection w/o further notes. Cheers! 🍷

Coravined bottle from last weekend relaid in storage. If I had a long enough thin tongue, I’d lick the inside of the bottle. 🤔😂 😋

Ripe in flavor, with a vivid array of black currant, blackberry, violet, black tea and black pepper aromas and flavors that zoom through to a long, expressive finish.
