2021. Courtesy of @Pinotman /// Andreas. Disturbed, lake bottom brown color. Slightly muddy and tart nose. Medium body. Not my cup of tea but there is an immaculate, front palate flavor moment of perfectly aged red Burg/Pinot Noir of, say, 15-18 years. Everything else is held in check during that time. That safe harbor in the storm is my take away. 4.1.26. — 3 months ago

Light in color with a brown twinge. Quite perfumed. Sweet Pinot fruit. Better than their IDA Buntsandstein at this point in it’s evolution. Orange zest, strawberry, cranberry. Quite tart and kind of oaky. For some reason all the big boys of the 20‘ vintage do not come across as a top vintage for E & M. Good but they just don’t reach the heights of other vintage’s. — 22 days ago
Wine tasting at Ziereisen. In Baden Effringen-Kirchen. Without doubt one of the top 10 winemakers in all of Germany and perhaps in the top 100 in the world. Went through all of his portfolio. This entry level Chasselat aka Gutedel was lemon driven mostly. Fantastic intro to the grape. And relatively inexpensive. — 22 days ago
CVed them to Fung and it’s still that steely yet elegantly austere style that grows on you — 2 months ago
Another solid vintage of Ziereisen’s Entry Level Baden Spatburgunder. Dark garnet color with a ruby core. Fragrant aromas of red cherry/berry fruit, forest floor and a hint of smoke. Flavors of sour cherry, unripe strawberry and pomegranate fruit with additional hints of dried herbs, savory spices and minerals. Long lasting earthy finish and extremely smooth tannins. Medium bodied with a very smooth texture and a bit of tension. Rustic but quite elegant at the same time. Excellent quality for a reasonable price. — 3 months ago
I was surprised when this turned out to be an orange wine, but not at all disappointed. Beautiful amber color, medium bodied, with a strong nose of ripe, sweet fruit, with good acid, and notes of navel orange, Meyer lemon, sweet cream (though VERY light), with hints of mustard, celery and other subtle vegetal notes. Palate is smooth, with great energy and well integrated creamy motes of ripe orange, blood orange and grapefruit, but not tart, with more prominent vegetable notes, maybe some more anise and celery. At the finish there’s even hints of some smoky BBQ, which ends in a dry, slightly spicy and savory hue. — 18 days ago
So pretty — a month ago
Needs an hour of air. Becomes magnificent at that point.
N: white flowers and lemon floor wax. A hint of Passion fruit with air.
P: sweet lemon. Hint of apricot. Mineral. Laible brightness. Not as mineral as the Klingelberger. Very good density. Amazing deliciousness. Long. A great drink.

Better when drunken at lower temperature

Well i think the 2010 vintage was a bust but this 2012 is stellar. A cellar find - i cleaned up - did bring it to a party were - i am sorry to say / the “clowns” (except the host) did not get what was in front of them so 1/3 of the bottle was left behind. Bottle 343 out of 450. Super earthy and big. Just 13% more a steak pinot - than a salmon one. Tea leaves, dark fruit, iodine, lime. Will put this under Argon and drink the rest tomorrow! — 5 months ago
This is backwards out of the gates but it’s all there. Huge density, power and concentration while remaining fresh and incisive. Needs an hour and I will be back. Needed way more than an hour. Still on day 2 this is dense and sinewy. Really structured but so fresh. Acts like high end Crozes or baby Hermitage. On day 3 this has finally come around! Like the 18 and 15! Unreal aromas and so expansive. Sweet, dense and long 9.4 to 9.5. But it was like pushing a boulder up a cliff. — 5 months ago

Such a serious Scheuerbe. Gorgeous nose. Wild herbs, sweet lime, sage, blackcurrants. High toned and so wild. Aromas in neon lights. Palate is slamming. Concentrated, elegant and densely structured but oh so nimble and super pure. Unreal class and finesse. So stunning and what a finish. Savory and alive. Cannot wait to see what air does. — 23 days ago
