Masseto 2022
· First impression & decanting: It was my first time trying Masseto. Since it’s a young wine, I put half the bottle into a decanter and kept the other half for the next day. It only started to open up after about an hour of decanting, showing dark fruit aromas.
· Second-day explosion: On the second day, the aroma fully opened up. I poured just a little into the glass, and the aroma instantly filled the entire bowl. Intense blackberry and plum, with hints of tobacco and cocoa.
· Palate: Tannins are velvety smooth; full-bodied, with good acidity and plenty of power.
· Summary: A very classic top-tier “Super Tuscan.” In its youth it is very tight and needs a lot of patience with decanting or further aging. But once fully open, it is absolutely stunning.

Gaja Gaia & Rey 2022
· Aroma: Fresh citrus, white peach, and pear, with light oak-derived notes of toast, vanilla, and minerality.
· Palate: Round and full-bodied, with a distinct creamy texture, bright acidity, and a clean, mineral finish.
· Summary: A very elegant top Italian Chardonnay. Excellent balance—it retains fresh fruit while showing the complexity of oak aging. Drinking perfectly now.

Super Tuscan blend of Merlot (75%) and Sangiovese (25%). Dark ruby/purple color with a slight garnet rim. Aromas of dark cherry/berry fruit, forest floor, leather, graphite and wild herbs. Flavors of black cherry/berry and blueberry fruit, cola, tobacco and dark chocolate. Bit of vanilla on the long and drawn out finish. Firm, but well structured tannins and just enough acidity. Popped and poured into red Solo cups; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2001 pours a garnet/purple with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of cassis, black berries, black cherry, dried purple flowers, capsicum, pencil shavings, some fine, cool and warm spices and dry, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Squarely in the zone and while this a traditional Bordeaux-style blend, it somehow has a touch of Italian vibes. Drink now through 2036. — 8 days ago

This 8 year old Sangiovese from Tuscany is drinking at its peak now.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing red and black fruits with light wood, earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle and better after an hour.

I've had this vintage 5 years ago and it is drinking better now, and will continue to do so in the next few years.

Paired nicely with Italian meatballs in red sauce.

A blend of 90% Sangiovese with 10% Merlot.

14% alcohol by volume.
