Albino Armani – Lugana DOC 2023
Lombardy / Veneto, Italy 🇮🇹
Lugana DOC is one of Northern Italy’s hidden gems for white wines, celebrated for its lake-influenced freshness and mineral elegance.
Overview
Made from 100% Turbiana (also known as Trebbiano di Lugana), an indigenous grape variety that thrives on the clay and mineral-rich soils near Lake Garda. This unique terroir provides freshness, salinity, and a distinct aromatic profile that sets Lugana apart in the white wine landscape. Albino Armani, a historic family estate since 1607, has been a reference point for quality in the region.
Aromas & Flavors
Bright, clean, and expressive. Expect aromas of white peach, green apple, lemon zest, and delicate floral notes, underpinned by hints of almond and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, it shows juicy citrus and stone fruit flavors, balanced by a saline backbone and lively acidity.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied, refreshing, and harmonious. Crisp acidity and mineral tension provide structure, while a lingering finish leaves hints of citrus peel and wet stone.
Winemaking Notes
Hand-harvested Turbiana grapes, fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity. Brief lees contact enhances texture and depth, while retaining the vibrant character that defines Lugana.
Food Pairing
Perfect with lake fish (like trout or perch), shellfish, sushi, or creamy risottos. Also a superb match with mild cheeses or a simple plate of grilled vegetables.
Verdict
A classic Lugana that showcases the charm of Turbiana — fresh, mineral-driven, and elegantly structured. Ideal as both a summer sipper and a food-friendly white, it captures the essence of Lake Garda in every glass. A la salute! — 10 months ago
This Lugana is a “riserva”, the opposite of the “fresh” type. Riservas are meant to be aged a bit, much like a high-end Riesling, and are aimed at the German wine market. This is a great example of the craft, medium bodied like a big Chardonnay, but with complex lemon and lime citric flavors like a New Zealand SB. The tartness of the finish allows it to cut through the oils in food to cleanse the palate. I am not accustomed to aging white wines, but I almost wish that I had allowed this to lay down for another year or so. — 2 years ago
Time has turned this wine into a mind blowing experience. The floral bouquet jumps out of the glass.!The flabbiness is gone. Integrated fruit with apricot pit. Focused finish. I was visibly upset when the bottle was empty. — 2 years ago

Had this Moscato at a picnic and it elevated the experience. Smooth and at 17% alcohol, you can’t beat it! — 2 years ago
This sparkling Lugana, dubbed Palafitte, is dry and about as bubbly as a Prosecco. It’s common for wineries to make sparkling Lugana wines in Champagne style, Prosecco style, or often one of each! This particular wine is made for food, standing up bravely to spicy Asian cuisine. It has palate-cleansing lemon rind and grassy tones, and a slightly bitter bite to the finish that allows one to sample the next dish in the meal with a fresh tongue. — 2 years ago
This dry rosé is made from mostly Turbiana with a small amount of red wine grapes. It’s a versatile and refreshing food wine with subtle flavors that do not overpower the food flavors. There’s restrained strawberry fruits there, along with slight citrus tones amid a grassy tone to the body. — 2 years ago
@Delectable Wine this is from Lugana, not Veneto, and is 90% turbiana and 10% malvasia — 3 years ago
Oak, matured. High viscosity Le Morette Riserva Lugana Turbiana 2013 @, Piccola, 230117 — 3 years ago
2023 vintage. Light-medium/medium body. Gorgeous color. Musky, mountain morning nose. Plenty of flavors in the palate bouncehaus but none of them fall completely out and are forced to wait out a turn. Nice balance framed with intrigue. Existing acidity cuts through cream sauces or garlic butter but pleasant enough to tackle on its own. Very unexpected and the nice price (< $20 USD). Will keep this one on the short list. 4.1.26. — 3 months ago

Malavasi, Hottone, Lugana Riserva 2022. Color, nose and palate , all satisfying for a lunch break.
Made of Trebbiano di lugana (Turbiana) 100%. — a year ago
fruktiga inslag, med referenser till grönt äpple och banan, friskheten sticker ut med utvecklande mineraltoner med referenser till honung i sin mognad är smaken mjuk och komplex, frisk och harmonisk ton — 2 years ago
This dry sparkler is made in the Champagne method, using Turbiana and Marzemino grapes. It isn’t a sweet wine, despite the pink color. There’s some refreshing strawberry and almond flavors, and enough bubbly acidity to stand up to really spicy foods. We paired it with Jamaican jerk chicken! It has a pleasant lingering finish, like tart dried peaches. — 2 years ago
This is a very good example of Lugana white, 100% Turbiana (closely related to Trebbiano, but not the same, despite the identified wine). It’s light bodied with bright acidity, some citric tartness, and a bit of graphite earthiness to the finish. This winery has switched from corks to screw cap closures in recent years; I have mixed feelings about this, since these closures will not allow the wine to age anytime soon, which motivates me to drink the bottles sooner. — 2 years ago
Here’s the Ottella Lugana Le Creete (2021) hailing from the small DOC of Lugana on the edge of Lake Garda calling both Veneto and Lombardy its home.
It’s made with 100% Trebbiano di Lugana (aka Turbiana) and is pale lemon with medium(+) intensity of grapefruit peel, honeydew, passion fruit, green apple, gooseberry, white blossom, honeysuckle, wet stones, Italian parsley, fennel, boxwood, toast, and delicate aged, hard cheese notes…
It has mouthwatering acidity to balance the medium alcohol (13% ABV) and rich mouthfeel and aromatic/ flavor intensity. It’s positively delicious!! — 3 years ago

Delightfully fresh mineralogy white with almond fruit, great with fish. — 4 years ago

Pale straw in color, intense (-) nose with pear, citrus and passion fruit notes. Refreshing and balanced. Tasty Lugana for your fried anchovies, sea food with slow cooked tomato sauce pasta and a thin dough Artishok pizza. — 16 days ago
