Post & Beam Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

An easy favorite. Earthy aroma, with black cherries, figs, coffee and licorice. Tannins are laced with leather, smoke and mild acidity that holds tight. — 19 hours ago

Ontogeny Napa Valley Red Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Intense af. Fruit and tannins galore and them tannins ain’t leaving anytime soon. If you can survive the palate assault, it’s pretty balanced now…just needs a quarter century to chill the bleep out. You got a 25-spot to spare? I don’t. So decant 5-8 hours in advance of consumption or open a day (or two) beforehand and put the cork back in. Might just avoid a trip to the ER. 3.20.26. — a day ago

Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese Mosel Riesling 2023

What a wonderful wine! The nose is a bit muted and not as expressive as some Kabinett bottlings from the same producer that I had recently. It's also very young. Lemon juice, pineapple, fresh apple, a bit of a petroly thing, too. The nose is full of restraint and rather delicate. The palate is model of balance. Residual sugars are clearly present but the acid backbone is so powerful that what remains in the end is a tangy, very fresh note which leads you to reach for the glass immediately to take another sip. Apple, pineapple and lemon notes all along, a bit of an oily, sirupy texture in the mid palate, some mild grip in the rear and a very lovely zesty touch all over the finish which makes for a great tasting experience. This is superb! — a day ago

Château La Conseillante

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. Low neck fill. Opened with a Durand but not decanted. Cork 45% saturated but in good shape. Both darker color and slightly less sediment than expected. Secondary and tertiary nose but (still!!??) some primary and ripe cherry and plum flavors in the front and mid-palates. Consistent palate push without any potholes, gaps or regrets. Phenomenal tobacco and fudge notes in the caboose. Based on this baddy, can hold steady for another 5-6 years before a scoring recalibration. Not the biggest Pomerol fan but this didn’t suck. 3.20.26 — a day ago

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2013

Cork broke, but the juice is good. The nose is shy, but the fruit flavors are vibrant. Tart blackberries, prunes, thyme, earthiness, a bit of tobacco bound in new leather. Tannins medium+, acidity medium+. Enjoy it now or enjoy it in 6-8 years. I really didn't want to do 6-7. I'm enjoying it now with a beautifully cooked sirloin, smashed potatoes, goat cheese, and a simple arugula salad. TGIF!

Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2019

First experience w/ this producer. From Coravin. Think better well chilled & decanted.

If you read my posts, you know I am more of a white burgundy person. Only occasionally having Ca Chardonnay.

I tried this one as it only sees 18-20% new oak. Lower than many Ca Chardonnay’s. So…I thought I’d check it out. Gotta keep your palate close to everything. This still shows more rigid backbone and wood than I prefer.

The nose shows; less oak but oak, some buttered popcorn, green apple, lemon-lime citrus with zest, topical melons, pineapple, white stone fruits, understated caramel, vanilla, white spice, dry to moist herbs, chamomile, lanolin, some paraffin, yellow & white flowers set in greens.

The body is a little viscous & waxy. Some buttered popcorn, green apple, lemon-lime citrus with zest, topical melons, pineapple, white stone fruits, apricots, caramel, vanilla, honeysuckle, butterscotch, white spices/ a touch of heat, dry to moist herbs, silvered almonds, shades of mint leaves, chamomile, lanolin, frothy cream, some paraffin, saline, a chalky presence, dry limestone, yellow & white flowers set in greens, very round acidity, good balance-length, more structure than I look for, elegant, rich, lush finish that lasts 90 seconds and lands on spice & volcanic minerals.

91-92. Paid just under $55.

Ghost Block

Estate Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a delicious one.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Pretty nose of blackberries, black currants, black plums, cedar, licorice, vanilla, chocolates, herbs, eucalyptus, light spices and black pepper.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with blackberries, plums, currants, cedar, licorice, peppercorn, coffee, cola, light vanilla, tobacco, herbs and light earth.

Long finish with fine grained tannins, red chili pepper and tangy cherries.

This young Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville is already drinking beautifully. Nicely balanced, complex and engaging. Elegant, tangy and rich. Soft and smooth.

Delicious right out of the bottle, easy to drink, and very approachable. As it opens up, more earth notes show up.

Showing a great nose. Spicy and entertaining.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years, and showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

I've had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent, and so much better with age.

A great sipping wine that paired nicely with my Leg of Lamb dish.

A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged for 24 months in (60% new) French Oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$80.
