Nice Chianti. A bit feral at first - 45 mins in the decanter and a slight chill bring things into more balance. Obviously could take more time in bottle but expressing pretty well overall even at this point. Has that great Radda lifting acid finish. Nice pairing with chicken scarpariello. — 5 months ago
In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make Italian wines from the heart of Tuscany. Medium Ruby red color with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice, blend of 80% Sangiovese with rest Merlot and Cab Sauv. On the palate flavors of black cherry and plum with tobacco, pepper and earthy cedar notes. Full-bodied, well balanced soft drying tannins on a smooth medium+ finish. Grab some Italian food and enjoy the great value wine. Consistent quality, a Fav!! — 7 months ago

Cranberry, tart strawberry, tart cherry, menthol, oak, and cedar. Nice bright fruit with a long finish of zippy acid. Some tertiary notes of prune, burnt sugar, and mulled fruit are apparent, but it can age a bit more. I think it is in its prime now, though, at 7 years. Medium body, medium alcohol, high acid, and medium plus tannins. — 2 years ago
Great wine. So well balanced. Needed to be decanted. Fruit, leather, herbs. Great with food. — 5 months ago
Paid €25 for a half bottle at L’Osteria di Giovanni. A nice Chianti Classico Reserva with a good full flavor. Would be nice to find in the United States at a reasonable price. I had a 2019 in January 2026. Just saw that this wine is available in the United States in the 750 ML bottle for $40 at wine Junction in Somerville. What a great price for a half bottle here in Italy at a restaurant. — 5 months ago
This bottled was purchased at the estate last year; double-decanted earlier in the day and enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 1982 “Il Poggio” Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and dried Morello cherry, red rope licorice, my grandmother’s attic, old leather bound books and dry, iron rich earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with ferrous minerals. What a lovely, mature Riserva and killer with mushroom risotto. I wouldn’t worry about this dropping off a cliff anytime soon but this is ready to drink now through 2037+ — 6 months ago
This up-front, fleshy Chianti is drinking really nicely right now. Pretty extroverted nose shows dark, macerated cherry, iodiney minerality, and a little loamy soil. In the mouth it’s pretty full, with a big whack of fruit initially, some tertiary notes developing and becoming apparent in the back half of the palate. Decent acids and still some soft tannin providing some scaffolding. I’d like a bit more linearity and persistence in the finish but for a ‘18 it’s darn nice. — 9 months ago
Really nice! 2019 was a great year, and this was just right with a couple of homemade pizzas. It picked up the spices in the pepperoni and its acidity cut through the richness of the sausage. The fruit was delicious and the cigar-leather on the finish was a lovely foil that made you want another sip as much as another bite of pizza. Yum! — a year ago
Amazing, delicious. Really brought the pineapple out in the iberico pork agnolotti — 2 years ago
Older bottles of Chianti are some of the wine world’s unknown treasures. Everyone is happy to age Brunello but you don’t see many people putting away Chianti in the cellar. And they’re missing out. If you can find old bottles you can sometimes get them for a song, as I did a bunch of these from @garagiste_wine. You want to talk about punching above your weight?!? These suckers are classy AF. Dark fruit with leather, a touch of graphite and earth. Great acidity still, decant and watch them shine. 1996 Terreno “Riserva” Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy. — 5 years ago
Clear, medium ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of cherries, roasted tomatoes, and black pepper; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, high tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of strawberries, black cherries, and clay pots with a long finish. This wine is complex and intense. Overall, I rate this wine as outstanding. — 5 months ago
The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is incredibly polished and sophisticated. Silky tannins give the 2017 its racy, sleek personality. Over the last year, the 2017 Riserva has really settled into a gorgeous place. There is plenty of vintage 2017 intensity, but Rancia is distinctly medium in body and restrained. The wilder side of Sangiovese, one of the signatures of Rancia and Fèlsina. — 5 months ago
Deep Ruby with aromas of fresh ripe berry fruits, floral and slight spicy notes. Blend of 95% Sangiovese; 5% Canaiolo & Colorino, aged 24 months in oak. Fruit comes primarily from a small parcel of galestro-rich soils. On the palate cherry and black raspberry flavors, adding lovely floral notes, well balanced with acidity and fine tannins. The finish is long ending with slight earthy toasty minerality. Very Nice!! — 6 months ago

Quite medium pale ruby rim, wide garnet rim . Spiced red cherries , quite reserved , and some herbal balsamic , saline hints. On the palate more of the slightly herbal , earthy red cherry , strawberry . Fine and refined , quite fresh acidity and gritty tannins . Good length Needs time but shows good promise and excellent balance . Come back in 5 years , will drink well for a further 5-10. At Vinous Icons NY, Pier 60 , Feb 2025 — a year ago
Pale ruby in the glass. Aromas of sour cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, layered with black pepper, cedar, smoke, tobacco, leather, and earth. Dry, with bright acidity, a medium body, and a medium finish.

Sipping Fine Wine
Blend of about mostly Sangiovese with splashes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged in large oak casts. Deep Ruby red color with aromas of black and red fruit adding tobacco and herb pepper spice nuances. On the palate flavors of blackberries and sour cherries, savory with licorice notes. Fine chalky tannins, full body, nice balance, long finish ending with herb and fruit mineral character. — 5 months ago
