Quite light spices , coffee , sous bois , herbal hints . On the palate this has good density and spicy , menthol , dark coffee stained fruit , some slightly gritty tannin . It comes across as quite ripe but with balanced acidity and quite good menthol tinged length . This was served blind from a half bottle . I was putting this in the 80s and Napa , not Bordeaux! This had to do with the texture and quite ripe , generous fruit profile . Drinking perfectly now , I wouldn’t wait any longer — 8 days ago
+2 hour decant(decent chunky/fine sediment). A prodigious purplish dark ruby red color. On the nose: intoxicating nose of dark fruit, musty forest floor, cigar wrapper, smoke, worn leather. Taste: Wow! Juicy, structured, layered, silky, mouthcoating wine with plum, blackberry, vanilla oak, cocoa, earth, and a baking spiced iron dark chocolate long finish with a slight tannic kick. YUM! A wonderful wine early in its drinking window. — a day ago
Intense and pretty with a bit of VA on the nose at first that blows off. Very pure fruit but still young and quite gnarly. Serious stuff, dark and intense. Will this ever dance lightly? I don’t know… impressive but less drinkable now that the 2000 alongside. — 8 days ago
A nice way to toast my daughter’s 33rd Birthday! Blend of Chardonnay (42%), Pinot Noir (39%) and Meunier (18%). Straw gold color. Ripe apple hits both the nose and palate immediately with additional notes of pie and bread dough, lemon, apricot, white flowers and fresh herbs. Distinct chalky/nutty note on the finish. Rich and full bodied. Acidity was a bit lighter than expected. Quite dry but extremely fruit forward. A bit lacking in effervescence and mousse but still quite enjoyable. Thank you for sharing and Happy Birthday, Kase! — 21 days ago
A fantastic nose. Intense lemon, cool slate, an oiliness. Surprisingly oaky on the palate. Lovely balance and freshness but a few more years to let that oak settle and this should be amazing — 16 days ago
With a four hour decant this 2001 Rousseau Chambertin was ethereally light with a good finish but not as complex or the signature sappy fruit associated with Rousseau. A good wine not great. Next time will use a two hour decant — 15 days ago
