Côte du Py Morgon Gamay

Enjoyed at Pastis in Nashville at the sommelier’s suggestion, to pair with grilled Branzino and Boeuf Bourguignon. (I know.) Lovely nose, a bit astringent, delightfully fruit forward, a bit structured but not overpowering. — 12 hours ago

Epic night of Chave tonight with JL leading the tasting direct from his cellar. Group liked the newer 16 & 18 although the 04 was youthful & fresh — a month ago

Joseph Phelps Vineyards

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1984

This bottle of the 1984 Insignia was opened about 30min before service and enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The wine pours a deep garnet with a slightly browning rim and an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and plenty of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of desiccated black fruits: blackberries, black cherry, Chunky beef stew, mushroom, eucalyptus, leather, organic earth and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A mature wine what’s still lovely; full of secondary and tertiary notes. Drink now. — 12 days ago

Chateau St. Jean

Cinq Cépages Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

They don’t make ‘em like they use to. This wine is magic. Had this vintage a decade ago and it was spectacular then, still spectacular now pushing 30. — 24 days ago

Hermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne 1999

Opened prior to dinner. The 1999 Blanc pours a slightly hazy, amber color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of butterscotch, mango, ripe melon, guava, beeswax, mushroom, white and yellow flowers, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, almost decadent and full of mushrooms. Both intellectual and hedonistic. Drink now through 2034. — 10 days ago

Côtes du Jura Poulsard Blend 2020

Brilliant wine. So fresh, tart berries, bright flowers, stone, some herbs, mouth watering acidity from fruit flavors, apple, berries, cherries, hint of tropical fruit. So good with food. So good on its own. This is how I remember more Beaujolais tasting 10-15 years ago. — 22 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2022

Reddish in color with medium intensity.

Fresh picked cherries and strawberries on the nose with light chocolates notes.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, raspberries, chocolates, earth and spices.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and raspberries.

This is a very young Grenache blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Complex and engaging. Nicely balanced and spicy. The high alcohol is well integrated already.

Ripe and fresh tasting at this point, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of 75% Grenache and 15% Syrah with some Mourvedre and Cinsault. Aged mostly in concrete vats for 12 months.

16% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$50.
