Paso Robles Tannat 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2015 pours a deep ruby/purple color with medium+ viscosity and significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing wjth notes of cassis, plum, animale, some anise and other warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely Tannat that had me craving cassoulet. Drink now through 2035. — 2 months ago

Panoplie Esprit de Beaucastel Red Rhone Blend 2005

Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service. The 2005 “Panoplie” pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous, with notes of ripe and desiccated black and red fruit: blackberries, Marionberries, raspberries, black cherry, strawberry, leather, mushrooms, purple flowers, cocoa, old wood and a mix of dry organic and inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and simply delicious. Drink now through 2040+. — 10 months ago

Dianthus Paso Robles Mourvedre Blend Rosé 2024

[44% Mourvèdre, 43% Grenache, 9% Counoise, 4% Cinsaut] Tavel-style medium-dark salmon color Rose that I look forward to trying every year, very French-like with the Mourvèdre really showing, the Grenache adds some very nice round redfruits, the Counoise and Cinsault really lifting the acid and the wine, quite a full-bodied rose, longish finish, as always, very, very good!! — 9 months ago

Adelaida District Vermentino 2024

I tasted the 2024 Vermentino with my flight at Tablas Creek and bought a bottle to take home. Lovely fruity wine, very drinkable. I generally don’t like whites with strong minerality but found this one to be very palatable! — a year ago

Le Complice Adelaida District Syrah Blend 2019

Elegant and mature, this Rhône style blend, leaning heavily on Syrah with Grenache and Terret Noir, shows raspberry, strawberry, black cherry, blackberry, grilled meat, forest floor and leather. It could use a bit more acidity to add to the vibrancy but otherwise the balance of fruit with velvety tannin is appealing. Very food friendly. — 2 months ago

Esprit de Tablas Adelaida District Mourvedre Blend 2021

Read the hype, bought the bargain, drank it alone like a responsible adult. Too bad the 2021 is too young and tight-wound at first, but on day three it exhaled and pulled me completely inward. Magnetic. I am sold. Deep and complex, there are too many layers to name, but i immensely enjoy the fruit’s push against the savory pull. Quietly persuasive rather than flashy. — 5 months ago

@Ryan Colthorp yeah, it is relatively new. One of the rare Rhone varieties that tablas has been making into a single variety wines. Fun!
