Clos Du Val Wine Co.

Val di Suga (Angelini)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1997

At almost 30y this is still very much alive & kicking!
Starts off a bit dusty & musky but then the fruit emerges - dried cherries, tomato leaf, surprisingly fresh!
Beautifully poised & elegant on the palate, the tannins completely evolved, mellowed, the acidity still fresh & bright.
This is brilliant, and so delicious right now.

Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

I’ve waxed (eloquent? Well, at least waxed!! 🤔) about the virtues and quality of this excellent 2020 Zinfandel multiple times, but this wine is still punching well above its weight (the so-called “leftovers” that didn’t make the single vineyard cut), long finish, lovely!! Going to the Bedrock pickup party in Sonoma tomorrow to get some of the 2024s I’ve already purchased, so this is a great warmup!! — 2 months ago

Griffin's Lair Vineyard Syrah 2016

I think this is worth seeking out if you're a CA Syrah fan. Great dirt and "pepper" (my first btl where I said "I get this pepper thing") with a nice balance of mature fruit. Drinking really nice right now. Enjoy! — a month ago

The Arsonist California Petit Verdot Blend 2021

Clear, deep ruby in color (almost purple); on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of black cherries, cassis, and graphite; on the palate, it's dry with medium acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of black plum, violets, blueberries, and wet slate with a long finish. This wine is intense and complex, but could use a bit more acidityto balance the fruit. Overall, I rate this wine as very good. Nellie liked it with food. — 3 months ago
