Tropical, some stone fruit, someone said green almonds and I can’t not taste them now, but this is a lot of acidity with good tart fruit. — 5 months ago

I have a soft spot for this Austrian Winery. They used to have a tasting room in Passau/Germany. Their Rieslings are great across the board and their Grüners actually have depth.

The grounds belong to the monks - and for some time they still made Messwein. Wine for the church.

Have always loved this producer. Great acidity with key lime, nectarines, ginger, and bergamot. Could age a few years easy. — a year ago

Gobelsburger Kamptal Riesling 2021

None of the petrol on the nose. This one is more floral. Great acidity, very refreshing and enjoyable, with hints of apple/ pear. — 3 years ago

big petrol right out of the gate - greenish shimmering hued, then all kinds of lanolin, herbal & gooseberry - SB notes, also some orchard fruit, but fairly austere overall. Palate was lean angular razor sharp even at this age and we let it warm up too. Bone dry, racy acidity, mouth puckering finish... Wifey liked it, I didn't but could appreciate it for what it is. — 5 months ago

Gaisberg Riesling 2013

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2013 Gaisberg pours a brilliant yellow color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with fabulous notes of stone fruits, ripe tropical fruit, lemon, petrol, and a mix of sedimentary minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and powerful. At this point in its evolution, the 2013 Gaisberg is a bit of a showstopper. After a full day of really amazing wine, it got everyone’s attention in the right way. All of its pieces are in the proper place. Drink now through 2037+ — 7 months ago

Zöbinger Riesling 2019

Blind tasting no2. We all immediately pegged this as old world Riesling. The tell tale signs of petrol and dried apricot gave it away entirely. But we all missed Austria. Probably need to learn more about differences in common Riesling areas.

Clear and bright straw yellow with powerful petrol fumes. Off dry but medium-high acidity with a low-medium body. Dried apricots with some slate completely dominate the flavors. It’s not complex, but has a good finishing length. Riesling for certain. Austria? Wouldn’t know!

Alte Reben Grüner Veltliner

The only one on a good horizontal lineup that I wouldn’t pick blind , but good. Leaning into Chablis territory with leesy creaminess and maybe some oak, but still has a pleasant rounded herbal nose (artichoke, succulents) and comes together in a pleasantly balanced, rounded tone — a year ago
