Raventos I Blanc

Edmond Vatan

Clos La Néore Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Thanks to 2 wine store owners that I became good friends with over the years I’ve had the opportunity to have a good stash of Vatan. For me Vatan is one of those wines that adheres to the cliche, “ there are no great wines just great bottles”. In this instance it was a great bottle. Intoxicating aromas of lychee, lime and florals. One of those wines you’re happy just to smell. There is no disappointment on the palate. Beautiful balance and texture, nothing out of place. Layers of concentrated fruit; mango, green almonds, star fruit and lemons. Ripe fruit that is fresh and managed by the wonderful acid. A finish you never want to end. The only flavor missing, which I often find in Vatan, is “spearmint”. — 10 days ago

@Jan de Weerd When you have a moment read some of the notes, you will see VERY favorable reviews are very common. If I recall fellow poster @Conrad Green called Vatan the Raveneau of Sancerre. He was spot on IMO

GREAT pull! I think I finally finished my only stash (2002) Vatan last year.

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2009

#AgedWineTuesday

Celebrating 25,000 followers on Vivino, with this fabulous sweet wine from Bordeaux.

Dark gold in color.

Full bodied and smooth with high acidity.

Sweet on the palate with great complexity and mouthfeel.

Showing lemons, red and yellow apples, tropical fruits, spices, caramel, honey, peaches, lemons, citrus, turmeric and honeysuckle.

Long engaging finish.

This 17 year old Sauternes is drinking exceptionally now, although it will continue to age nicely in the next 30 to 50 years. A delicious dessert wine from a great vintage.

Rich and fruit forward. Beautifully balanced with enough acidity to balance the high sugars. Showing a wonderful nose that I kept smelling on for a long time.

Already showing great complexity, sweet and expressive. Opulent with great elegance.

Wine Spectator 98 points. Wine Advocate 100 points.

I've had many different vintages of this wine, and it is always very impressive.

Good by itself as a dessert wine, or with food. I paired it with blue cheese.

A blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Aged in all new French oak barrels for 30 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

97 points.

$700.

Oyster Bay

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2025

The lemonade of wines! I am a big sauvignon blanc fan, but my parents never really drink ones from New Zealand, and this made me wish I had known about it sooner. So refreshing and almost makes you pucker with how tart it is. This wine begs to be drank by the pool. Grapefruit forward, but had a grassy and herbal note that kept it grounded. Clean, acidic and crisp. I would serve this colder than class has taught me to because it is a summer delight. — 17 days ago

Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Pale yellow color. Smells very citrusy and tropical, with a hint of some creaminess. On the first taste it was very bright, but had a richness on the finish. Definitely fruit forward, leans heavily towards tropical fruits like pineapple in the beginning. Has mineral/earthy notes towards the end. Very clean and dry. I really like this wine. Had it with spanish iberico ham, great combo. — 3 months ago

First time trying this. Pretty good. Honeysuckle stood out on the nose with lemony mint. Flavors of peach and pear with solid acidity. — 3 years ago

Taittinger

Comtes de Champagne Grand Crus Brut Blanc de Blancs 2006

Aromas of lemon zest, white peach, and chalky minerality are layered with hints of toasted brioche and hazelnut. On the palate, vibrant acidity with a creamy, seamless texture. The finish is long and precise. A confident elegance. This bottle makes you yell , “Why don’t I own magnums?” — 4 months ago

I think that every time I have a great bottle of Champagne.

Agree, Mags on Champagne are different than 750, maybe a dose of grandeur, and maybe some producers (Pierre Peters) have been known to dosage the 750/1500 ml proportionally different, but Taittinger to my knowledge is straight. A favorite in our house as well, we tasted the 2006 initially on premise at the Domaine, a wonderful experience that I'll encourage to anyone in the area.

Jacques Selosse

Initial Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Well, here we are. Selosse Initial. What is there really to say? Is it good? Is it great? Is it delicious? Does it live up to the hype? Did it change my life?

Yes.

A beautiful golden hue in the glass with profuse perlage. There’s no need for traditional notes here, we already know. Wonderfully electric, saline, and textured. Depth, personality, and romance.

Nothing I say here matters. Go get as many Selosse champagnes as you can. Then get a few more. And enjoy life.

Slightly reductive at first but upon opening and I’m speechless. Just an absolutely incredible wine I don’t think I’ve ever had one like this before especially not at 14 years old — 3 months ago

Amador County Chenin Blanc 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Best on Day 2. The 2023 Amador County pours a bright, deep straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart orchard fruit: peach, lemon, tangerine, white flowers, lanolin, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is waxy. Obviously young but I can’t help but feel that these Chenin’s from Tegan just keep getting better and better. Drink now through 2039. — 4 months ago
