Pains me to say this bottle was on its way out. Very dry cork and low fill. Not sure about storage. Completely tertiary with dried florals and meaty bacon and salami tones. Found a few bottles of this Syrah-heavy CdR, by 1995 Guigal was making over 1 million bottles of this gem that I paid less than $10/bottle for on release, this bottle had 2-3 inches of ullage, suspect cork seemed glued into the bottle neck, yet fresh, crisp acidity, a little Brett, but great balance, medium-bodied, this wine will still evolve, really lovely, even though it’s still ultimately a CdR to drink on a Tuesday night with grilled sausage!! — 16 days ago

Excellent follow up to the classic 2016 Vintage. Blend of Mourvèdre (30%), Grenache (30%), Syrah (15%), Counoise (10%) and the balance (15%) made up of other approved CDP varietals led by Vaccarese’. Aromas of red and black fruit, garrigue, leather and earth. Flavors of black raspberries, currants and cherries, Asian spices, smoked meat and truffles. Long and lingering (slightly spicy) finish and beautiful balance. Full bodied and dense, but not overpowering. Fine grained tannins and amazing complexity. Great now, but there is another decade (or so) of aging potential. Just incredible. — a month ago

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Very fruity on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing red and black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, chocolates, tobacco, cola, coffee and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This delicious Syrah from Napa Valley is still very young, and needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly, but already drinking beautifully. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine.
