Unculín Bierzo Mencia 2019

Ripe blackberry and black cherry, powerful without being heavy on the palate, tart black cherry, a little black pepper bite, and lingering gravelly tannins.

Capricho Val de Paxarinas Bierzo Godello

Always find myself enjoying Godello when I have it - need to seek it out more. This one is on the more giving side, with lots of lemony fruitiness. Incredible crunchy acid texture. Definitely mouth puckering (in a good way) and with a lingering finish that has that jolly rancher quality. — a month ago

Ultreia Bierzo Godello 2022

2022. We loved the 2020 vintage of this crisp saline white with oysters and I thought I would try the 2022 with a little heartier fare. It paired great with the sausage and white beans and the grilled chicken thighs with stewed summer vegetables. — a month ago

La Vizcaina El Rapolao Bierzo Mencía 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2020 pours a deep ruby purple with a near opaque core and a magenta rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with notes of Montmorency cherry, tart plums, licorice, purple flowers, cocoa, and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Tasty stuff and a very nice pairing with braised short rib. Drink now through 2040. — 2 months ago

PnP. Modestly dark purple color. Would never guess Spain from the nose and palate. This is straight up Rhone! Dark cherries, meaty/earthy, some tobacco, and subtle herbs. Nice depth and finish. Solid restaurant list value. — 2 months ago
