Le Gréal Hermitage Syrah 1990

Dark purple color, looks and smells like a 10-year-old wine, smoke, black fruits, and some tarry notes I’ve never encountered in Hermitage (?), big, rich, very structured and tannic, super long finish, will it ever mature during my remaining lifetime, staggeringly GREAT Hermitage!! — 19 hours ago

Post dinner party notes. Third bottle I’ve had of this and by far the best yet. Amazing. Such a complex nose, with roasted herbal notes, dark spicy fruit, earthy mineral iodine notes Tannins just about completely resolved. Length and depth for days. Wow. — 4 months ago

Interesting. I might have this wine as well. I seem to recall it was so super oaky, couldn’t taste anything. Glad to read that it became more balanced.

If you fancy a bit of butter then this one might be right up your alley. It's not a butter bomb though, and it's pretty well made. The nose is buttery but shows as well nice lemony and oaky notes. The palate shows some good acid drive, and that acid drive is what makes it a great tasting experience, actually. Nice buttery touches and texture all along, some nice lemony notes, a bit of grip in the rear. It's quite wide and ample but not as thick as what I was expecting. The finish is not very long and shows some oaky notes that make a come back, among other buttery and lemony notes. It's well made, clearly overpriced here (they ask for 50+ USD in equivalent local currency before discount) but it's a nice, enjoyable pour even on its own. — 5 months ago

Spot on! Great tasting description, I had this one on previous vintages at the winery (before was renovated) and I was also pleased it was the traditional butter bum you get here in California.

I agree Freddy, it's reasonably buttery.

Domaine Sainte Claire Chablis Chardonnay 2021

Pale lemon color with aromas of citrus, stone fruits and herb notes. On the palate flavors of apple, peach and lemon citrus with notes of honey and spice. Medium+ finish, vivid acidity, nice balance ending with lemon citrus and mineral character. Good now! — 7 months ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of blackberries, black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, tobacco leaf, vanilla, chocolates, cherry liquor, eucalyptus, herbs, mediterranean spices, light pencil lead, black pepper and licorice.

Full-bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, dried fruits, cedar, figs, vanilla, leather, spices, light earth, herbs, chocolates, peppercorn, coffee and light alcohol.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This young Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley needed 5 hours to open up properly.

Showing nice complexity with a great nose. Rich and extracted, yet elegant and smooth. Fruit forward and easy drinking.

I've had many different vintages of this wine, but this is my first time having it so young. Already drinking beautifully, and will get even better in the next 10 to 20 years. Showing good potential to become a 95+ point wine.

Nicely balanced and engaging, with a great mouthfeel.

A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged for 21 months in (75% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of only 17 barrels.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$170.

@Dave, interestingly enough, Sacramento lies at the confluence of two rivers — American and Sacramento — in the area north of downtown Sacramento, there are weirs/causeways that handle flood problems (rant: because we Californians allow most of our excess rainfall to flow into the Pacific). Anyway, sturgeon, which is farm-raised around here, is big business in this area, I *believe” it produces more U.S, caviar than any other state. And the thing with farm-raised sturgeon — they are HUGE (50+ pounds) — so the local fish markets occasionally have it, very rich flavors!!

So, NO fly rods were involved, I generally hate fishing!! 🤷🤷

That is a neat story, but the fly rod would have been neater!

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

So much to say about this bottle. Its profile, its history, its growing rarity. And the fact that it was made at the very peak of The Patriarch’s era…

Then there is the occasion. A wine you cellar and protect, waiting patiently for the one moment worthy of all its allure.

A wine from a cooler Napa Valley, so evident in the glass it becomes mesmerizing. The freshness, the tension, the quiet authority; everything speaks of a time and place in Napa which no longer exists.

Yes, this is the kind of bottle that stays with you, not just as a wine, but as a memory.
