Féraud-Brunel

Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2007

Opened the day before with half the bottle remaining. The 2007 CdR Villages pours a deep purple color with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated dark brambles, red and purple flowers, open pasture land, olives, some black pepper, leather and organic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+. This is an impressive wine despite the rather modest designation, especially when you consider it’s nearly 18 years old! Then again, the talent behind this wine should yield a solid wine (Pegau & Cailloux). Drink now though it could easily see its 25th birthday if you must hold one longer. — 9 months ago

Cuvée Maclura Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend

Had this a few days ago. Really delicious. Balanced, nice fruit. Hard to dislike this, especially for $20. Unfortunately I can’t recall the vintage. — 2 months ago

Cuvée Réserve Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Rhone Blend 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2023 Cuvée Réservé Blanc pours a deep yellow color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of melons, a mix of white and yellow flowers, marmalade, tarragon, and wet stones. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with an oily texture. Lovely stuff and better with air. Drink now through 2033. — 5 months ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Both days outstanding but slightly different experiences. Day 1 was about power. Day 2 was about balance. The 2020 “Cuvée Réservée” pours a brilliant garnet with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady, slightly funky notes of ripe brambles, garrigue, red & purple flowers, bacon fat, licorice, and dry rocky earth. On Day 2, everything was more open nit and the fruit showed more bruised with a slightly stewed profile. Lavender was the predominate floral profile too. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is textbook Pégau and I love it. Drink now through 2045+ — 2 months ago

9.0

A nice, easy drinking Côtes du Rhône. Typical red and black fruit, a hint of black pepper, sauvage on the nose. Black fruit with meaty flavors on the palate; good acidity and length; moderate 14 abv. Balanced. A good pairing with a pretty spicy lamb Rogan Josh. — 5 months ago

Consistently love this effort but absolutely cannot find it in SoCal. Hit it multiple times in late winter/early spring in Tucson where I can find it. Beyond solid value play.

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego I agree, a good value; I don’t see it often in my market, either. Got lucky this year

Chateau Pegau

Cuvée Setier Côtes-Du-Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2022

Very young, initially tannin forward masking the fruit but some cherry and raspberry lurking there, black tea, but lots of promise. — a year ago
